How To Make a Low-Budget Short Film

Untitled design-2

INTRODUCTION

This book is for anyone who wants to make a short film without spending a lot of money.  However, if you plan to direct and this is your first time, you will need to surround yourself with an experienced crew.  You’ll have to pay them, even if it’s not much.  I recommend finding an experienced producer, if you can.  They can bring a lot to the table (aside from money), if they are well-connected in the industry or even in the community.  They may even have working relationships with crew members.  Don’t make the common mistake of trying to wear too many hats.  If you’re already directing, you might be able to take on one other job.  But I wouldn’t recommend doing anymore than that.

Take a look inside..

INTRODUCTION

Although most of this book is for people who want to find work behind the scenes in the entertainment industry, I have decided to include a small section for business owners who want to connect with the industry.  There is information about how to rent/loan or sell your products and services to production companies.  I also think anyone who’s interested in learning how film/TV production works, will enjoy reading this book.

For those of you just starting your career, or in the early stages of building it, I’m going to walk you through the steps and give you tips along the way.

Becoming a Production Assistant (PA) is the entry-level job in Film/TV production.   There are two kinds of PAs:  Set PA and Office PA.  The Set PA works on the set and the Office PA works in a production office.

There are two sides to the Entertainment Industry:  Development and Production.

Development involves turning ideas and scripts into projects that can get the “greenlight.”  If a project is “greenlighted,” it means the film or television show will eventually go into production.

The Development side of the industry generally offers more stable employment.

I got my start working for Temp agencies as a Secretary.  So I was hired out to various Development departments.  I learned what it takes to get a deal in Hollywood and how difficult it is to get the greenlight for a project.  I was offered the opportunity to work full-time as an employee.  But I discovered that what I really love is the production side of the industry, even though it’s very unstable and you’re considered an Independent Contractor.  (Read on to find out more about that.)

Business & Career Consulting Services

Hello and Welcome to my Consulting Service!

I am based in Los Angeles, California.  If you would like to know more about me, feel free to check out my Introduction video on YouTube: www.tinyurl.com/hws7roc

I have worked in the entertainment industry for about 30+ years in theater, television and film.  My experience also includes acting, although I only did that for a short time before deciding to get behind the camera as a producer.  My producing partner is two-time Academy Award winner, Willie Burton.  You can look him up here: http://www.imdb.com  He and I are co-producing a film in New Orleans next year (2020).  We have shot a promo piece to help raise money for the movie.

If you are interested in moving your career forward or if you are a business owner, you’ve come to the right place.  After you have paid for my services, you’ll receive an email with more details and a Questionnaire to fill out.

ABOUT MY SERVICES:

If I take you on as a client, I will be tailoring a specific strategy to suit your goals, lifestyle, schedule, financial situation etc.  So it takes a few days to develop the plan.  The fee is $312 per month (which includes the payment processing fee). There are no refunds.  I don’t give refunds because I want you to take your investment seriously.   If you aren’t willing to invest in yourself, you can’t expect others to believe in you.  If you’re not willing to do the work and make the necessary sacrifices, you aren’t going to achieve your dreams.

What you are paying me for includes my 30+ years in the entertainment industry, my expertise, connections and my years of experience as a business owner.

With that said, I hope you will decide to work with me.  I had an extremely difficult time building my career, because I didn’t have a coach to guide me.  However, a few people have helped me along the way financially at various times and it was such a blessing!  I’ve assisted many people over the years, sharing my experiences and holding their hand through the process.  But I’ve learned that if you don’t have the right products and the right attitude, no one can help you.  You must believe in yourself and be willing to listen to good advice.  You need passion, determination and a laser-like focus on your goals.  You must believe that you CAN do what you want to do.

I’ll be available for phone consultations (1 call per month).  Or if it’s more convenient, we can communicate via email or text.

As in life, there are no guarantees.  But the chance for success is greater with two people working together instead of you struggling alone.  So, if you decide to work with me, I promise to give 100% and I ask you to do the same!

*** I also offer an HOURLY CONSULTING service for $26/Hr for anyone who would like to speak about 1 specific area of their career or business that they need help in but, doesn’t necessarily need months of coaching.

For Actors:

First, just to make sure we are on the same page… You will need to take acting classes in order to learn how to act.  I’m not that kind of coach.  But, I will teach you the necessary steps to get your career started and give you the tools to help you move forward.

I’ll try to find opportunities for you to audition in or near your city/town and look for plays and other projects to give you more acting experience. We’ll discuss headshots and the best way to build a resume. You might have to work for free at first, but if you’re available for background acting jobs, those are usually paid positions.  I’ll share tips and tricks for handling auditions.  I’ll also have a brainstorming session with you about ways to use the internet for more exposure.

For Business Owners:

My specialty is business owners who sell products.  So if you have a service, contact me by email (see below) and I’ll give you a free thirty-minute consultation to see if I can be of assistance.  Be sure to include your phone number in the email.  For those who sell products, I will help you develop a launch or re-launch strategy and provide you with the tools to help build brand awareness. I’ll teach you how to sell/rent your products to the entertainment industry and how to make product placement deals with production companies/filmmakers.

In addition, I will assist you in how to find Buyers info to get your merchandise into stores.

I’ll also teach you how to increase your social media presence via Live Streaming and how to get media attention. If you need additional services (such as writing press releases, preparing press kits, managing your social media, etc) there is a separate fee.

For Filmmakers/Producers:

I will teach you everything I know about being a producer and/or becoming a filmmaker.  I’ll also use my industry connections to assist you in building your career and finding work. I’ve written an ebook (available on this site) called “How To Make A Low-Budget Short Film.”  You’ll learn how to make a movie that will have high production value and increase your chances of getting into film festivals.

I’ll teach you set etiquette (if you haven’t worked on a set before) and send you the terminology that’s used in the entertainment industry – if you need it.

So, if you’re ready to get started, to begin this exciting journey or to take your career to the next level email me to my email address below.. I look forward to working with you!

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.   🙂  My email is: dorezyvonne@gmail.com
